Hi there,
I’m shaving my lid for a brave kid for the second time!
I’ll be shaving my lid on Sunday 20 November, 12 noon, at Coastlands, Paraparaumu. Come down and watch, it’ll be heaps of fun!
Sean was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. He was nearly 6 years old. In less than a week after being admitted to hospital he was put on life support and airlifted to ICU in Starship. We were told he probably wouldn't make it. He spent 2 1/2 weeks on life support and was started on chemo.
Sean had six months of intense chemo and towards the end of this he relapsed and his only option now was a bone marrow transplant. His big brother, Cameron, was the donor. Cameron was 9. The transplant involved another 6 months of intense treatment, including radiation to his entire body.
Sean's body was put through the ringer, to put it mildly, but he survived. He is our miracle boy. He was incredibly brave. His brother Cameron also had to be brave. He had to watch his little brother suffer, he donated his bone marrow, and his life for over a year revolved around his brother's treatment.
It's a journey that affects the whole family, and the journey continues with Sean needing regular checkups, tests and medication.
And helping us through this journey has been Child Cancer. They are still there for us and will continue to be. We would not have come through this as well as we have without them, and I can't thank them enough.
More than three children on average per week in New Zealand are diagnosed with cancer. Each year New Zealand children with cancer collectively undergo an astounding 75,000 treatments and procedures throughout their journey. For each one they receive a Bead of Courage… The Child Cancer Foundation is committed to supporting children with cancer and their families from the time of diagnosis, throughout their journey of treatments and subsequently the transition back into the community.
By shaving my lid for a brave kid, I’m helping raise the $3 million required each year for child and family support services. I’m passionate about the cause and willing to lose my locks to prove it!
Please sponsor me as I participate in funrazor. All money raised goes to the Child Cancer Foundation.
Thanks so much for all your support!
