I'm putting the hard yards in to run my FIRST EVER MARATHON in November. Each year I've pulled out and run the half for one reason or another. I rolled my ankle a earlier this year which put me on the bench for a few months. My marathon hopes yet again were dashed.

Last year my Dad was diagnosed with a tumour growing on his face. He had five operations to remove his nose and chase the cancer as it spread on his face and neck. During this time he had 3 separate courses of radio therapy. After all this our family had the news that the cancer has spread to his lungs and was spreading aggressively on already treated sites. In short there is nothing more that they can do and he is was a terminal case.
On July 19 Dad decided that he had lasted enough pain and slipped away in the evening. This saddened us all but came as some relief to know that the suffering had ended.

I've been inspired to run the full for my Dad (John McIlveen) having seen what he went through during his battle for life. If he can face each day and get through the pain, I can endure some pain and make a difference to Hospice whom have just been amazing.

Everyone hopes that they won't need Hospice so soon in their life, but those who have dealt with them will know the lengths they go to ensure loved ones are as comfortable as possible in the last chapter of their life.

So dig deep and sponsor me in what will be a big event for me and my family.
