In September I am traveling to Tanzania in the hope of summiting Mt Kilimanjaro!

I'd like my trip away, and efforts on the climb not only to benefit me, but to benefit others.

I'd like to dedicate my effort to Matthew Davys. He died from leukaemia nearly 20 years ago. He was 8. He would have been 26 on Monday 13th of August.

Although it was a long time ago, I remember him, and that time well. His bravery and endurance, with still a smile on his face, was something we could all learn from.

The loss of Matthew had a big influence on me when I was young.

Now I have Sam and Joel; young boys of my own. They'll be staying behind with Alan when I go away (don't forget to feed them and Rocket the cat Al!)

Although not of the same magnitude as many fundraising efforts, I think when we get close to the near 6000m of the summit, I will need to employ some of those skills Matthew showed- perseverence, keep smiling even when it hurts.

I'd like to raise money for Cure Kids - A wonderful NZ charity which does scientific research into technologies which may benefit children's health. That's my sort of charity!
