Welcome to Pedal For Parkinsons

Pedal For Parkinsons

PAGE CREATOR: Ruth Chapman
EVENT: Graperide Magnum (202km) and Contact Epic (125km)
EVENT DATE: 16/04/2011

Thanks for visiting Andrew and Ruth's fundraising page.

Did you know that approximately 1 in 500 people have Parkinson's and the average age at diagnosis is 59?

My father was diagnosed with Parkinson's a few years ago, however this year has seen his health deteriorate and both his and my mothers (as his primary caregiver) lives turned upside down. Recently another family member has now been diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s.

So to help support my family and others fight against the disease Andrew and I wanted to help raise awareness of and fundraise for the Parkinson Foundation NZ.

This is where we get to the HOW?

The impact of this disease on my immediate family has made me determined to do what I can to help raise awareness.

As such we plan to use our bid to complete both the Graperide MAGNUM ride, in Blenheim on the 2nd April (202km road bike race) and the Contact Epic in Lake Hawea on the 16th April (125km Mountain bike race) to do so.

We have formed our own cycle team called Pedal For Parkinson’s. Our goal is compete in both of these races - pushing ourselves to ride distances we've never ridden before and some of the most technical terrian that we have ever faced.

We’ll also be doing a variety of both road and mountain bike races as part of our training/vehicle for the cause – so keep an eye out for us and please come say hi or follow our blog at pedalforparkinsons.blogspot.com.

To help raise awareness we even have our own team kit so we shouldn’t be too hard to miss.

We'll do all the hard work; train for and complete this event, but we really need your help to make a difference to our charity.

Please could you sponsor us?
