Accor Hotels $10 Queenstown Challenge |
| EVENT DATE: |
30/11/2011 |
The Accor Hotels $10 Queenstown Challenge was first run in February 1993 and began as a fun challenge between two Queenstown locals to see who could make the return Queenstown to Auckland trip with no money and no assistance from friends and relatives along the way.
Why are we doing this???
Well my Wife (Kim) and I (Sean) have a son (Keegan)who was diagnosed almost 3 years ago now with Type 1 Diabetes.
This has affected the whole family, going from an easy going cruisy lot to having to have some pretty rigid schedules imposed on us all.
We constantly have to check to see if what we want to do will in some way affect Keegan and his illness, can we work around it, can we do it at all.
Keegan himself has to test his blood sugars 6 times daily and inject himself up to 8 times a day. He follows a strict diet and cannot even go outside and just run around without having to think about his condition.
Keegan and my Wife went on the Curekids "Ticket to Hope" weekend in Queeenstown last year and what a fantastic time they had. My wife was so impressed with the Cure Kids Team and what they stood for, She decided that it was worthwhile "To give something back" So along with her Sister, they decided to do the 2010 $10 challenge. They had a real blast doing the event and was part of a group of people that managed to raise over $250000.
It has given our family a chance to give back and say a big thank you to Curekids for what they do.
Of course doing it once was not enough so of course it was all on again for this year, this time roping in her Husband. Please, Please could you sponsor us? Every dollar counts!
Select the "Make a donation" button below. It’s simple, fast and totally secure and the money goes straight to Cure Kids.
If you live in New Zealand your donation is tax deductible and a receipt will be issued. Cure Kids Limited Account Number 02-0192-0017922-00 BNZ Newmarket Reference: KTeamDerbyDolls
Thanks for your support! (and keep an eye on our blog – they’ll be some hilarious stories, guaranteed!
******UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO THE "ONCE IN A LIFETIME" STORM THAT IS CURRENTLY PASSING OVER THE COUNTRY THE RACE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL LATER IN THE YEAR. WE WILL STILL BE RACING - JUST A LITTLE BIT WARMER AND LATER! THANKS EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED.***********
