This summer adventurer Jamie Fitzgerald and the Foundation for Youth Development (FYD) are teaming up for New Zealands young people.
Thats right, we're walking the length of New Zealand to raise awareness of youth issues in Aotearoa and find sustainable solutions!
The Big Walk is underway from 30 November 2009 to 02 February 2010 and will see Jamie and veteran mountaineer and co-founder of FYD, Graeme Dingle, walk the 3000km Te Araroa trail.
Jamie will start at Cape Reinga and Graeme will start in Bluff. Along the way both will be joined by groups of New Zealand youth who are involved in or have graduated FYDs programmes.
The Big Walk is all about tackling New Zealands sobering youth statistics by raising awareness of issues faced by young people, encouraging a unified approach by all New Zealanders - politicians, corporates, healthcare and education providers, and communities alike - to help motivate and engage youth and maximize success in the area of youth development.
Because confident and healthy young people are critical to the success of building a vibrant and strong New Zealand!
