We will be taking part in the 2009 Novotel $10 Queenstown Challenge! This involves teams of two undertaking a series of innovative challenges en route from Auckland to Queenstown over 3 days.

With just $10 we'll have to use all possible creativity and ingenuity to make it without flying or driving ourselves. Other people can, of course, drive us, so we hope we meet plenty of generous NZers on the way who won't mind picking up hitch-hikers just this once!

Sound crazy but fun???

Well, yes it is a little; however this is all in the name of funding vital medical research for children's life threatening illnesses like diabetes and cystic fibrosis. We only have to find the energy and willpower to survive these 3 days while the kids we are raising funds for have to find the same determination to face their challenges on a daily basis.

AND WHY ARE WE DOING IT?

Well, we lost a great mate to cancer at what was a very young age and although he was not quite a kid (well, by age anyway), it rocked us. This year therefore, as part of our 'Cardinal in the Community' programme, we have opted to support 'Cure Kids' and the vital research they do.

So please could you sponsor us? Every dollar counts!

Not only are we trying to raise our entry fee of $7,000 for our team, we would like to be the winners of the Cure Kids Champion Fundraising Trophy, which will be presented at the prize giving ceremony at the end of the race.

Methuselah is the oldest person whose age is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, given as 969 years and the name Methuselah has become a general synonym for any living creature of great age. Thanks to Mitre 10 Mega Albany and Grantly Imports, we have taken possession of a wise gnome whom we are calling Methuselah. Our Methusalah is 20,000 years old, representing the 20,000 children who live with a life threatening illness in NZ. Our goal is to raise $20,000 for CureKids - $1 for every child in this country living with the various life threatening illnesses.

Our gnome Methuselah is going to complete the challenge with Ant & Craig as his bodyguards for the trip. Photos will be taken of the gnome in various towns and cities on the journey and he will be sold to the highest bidder on TradeMe on September 2 with the funds raised being paid to CureKids. The highest bidder will then take possession of Methuselah and the photo album for eternity!
