Hi there!
**Check out my CatWalk Fundraising Sale at http://gacland.angelfire.com **
Welcome to my page fund raising for the CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust through my entry to run the New York Marathon in 2010 with the CatWalk New York Marathon team.
The CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust is sending a team to participate in the 2010 New York Marathon in New York on 7th November 2010 and I'm lucky enough to be part of the team!
I'm a 27 year old junior doctor, currently living in Wellington. I have a passion for the outdoors and physical activities like running, skiing, surfing, diving ... etc. So when my Dad, Rick, who is involved with CatWalk offered me the chance to run the New York marathon AND at the same time raise money for a charity that hopes to find a cure for those that through spinal cord injury have lost a varying degree of their ability to enjoy physical activity and the great outdoors - I was sold.
The ING New York Marathon is one of the worlds great road races, with over 40,000 entrants each year. The race attracts many world-class professional athletes, not only for the more than $600,000 in prize money, but also for the chance to excel in the media capital of the world before more than two million cheering spectators and 315 million worldwide television viewers.
Any of the more than 700,000 past participants will attest, crossing the finish line in Central Park is one of the great thrills of a lifetime.
This event will be a once in a lifetime event for me and all the others on the team as we experience New York City in a completely different manner to the usual tourist. More importantly it is an opportunity for us to give support to a fantastic cause - finding a cure for spinal cord injuries; by raising money for and raising the profile of The CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust.
One New Zealander every 5 days sustains a spinal cord injury resulting in a long lasting impairment. There are some fantastic organisations offering support and rehabilitation to these unfortunate kiwis but CatWalk has a different focus, the CatWalk Trust aims to challenge the current boundaries of research, enabling SCI victims to walk again.
CatWalk is a fantastically well run, energetic and motivated New Zealand charity. Everyday the CatWalk team are working together to fulfil their goal to help people living with spinal cord injuries get out of their wheelchairs and back on their feet - this is our opportunity to get behind them.
By supporting the CatWalk 2010 New York Marathon team you'll be supporting the steps needed to make it possible!
Absolutely all funds raised will go towards spinal cord injury research and changing the future that will improve the quality of life for those affected by spinal cord injury.
All costs incurred in getting me to the start line are covered by myself and my generous family. Therefore you can be assured that any money donated will being going directly towards finding a cure for spinal cord injuries.
Check out CatWalk's site today (www.catwalk.co.nz), follow my blog, support me in my madness, spread the word and please donate to CatWalk via the link below. Help CatWalk to get Kiwis out of wheelchairs and back on their feet!
