Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
Last year, Amy Becker, John Edlin, Kirstin Walsh and Suzanne Johnson took part in the Five passes cycle tour and raised $5600 for the Mutima Project.
Since then, the Mutima Project has taken a team of medical specialists from New Zealand to Zambia and carried out life saving heart operations on seven young women. Each operation cost around NZ$5000 (as compared to $US30,000 elsewhere).
The Mutima Porject team will travel again in April 2012 with an aim to carry out between 15 - 20 operations on young underprivileged Zambians this time round. In addition, the team will continue to build capacity towards a sustainable independent cardiac unit in Lusaka within the the next 5 years.
This year, the Mutima cycle team take on the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge on the 26th November.
Amy, Kirstin and Munanga Mwandila will each do the 160km 'solo' road bike challenge whilst Madeleine Van Dyk will do the 80km 'Contact Huka' mountain bike challenge.
They hope that through your generosity, they can collectively raise $5,000 - enough for one operation.
WILL YOU HELP US?
The team is doing all the hard work; training hard for this event and will compete as best as they can, but we really need your help to make a difference to these young Zambians and help change their lives.
For the team it's a very strenuous challenge on the heart, a challenge on their endurance but all through a healthy event. But for these patients, it's a daily struggle because of unhealthy hearts and even for the most optimistic of patients, there is very little hope without the intervention of teams like the Mutima Project. We can make a difference to up to 20 more people next year, like we did for 7 people this year but only with your help.
